Volunteer Opportunities

ImageVolunteers are vital to the delivery of services that Nepean Support Services provides. These services include Meals on Wheels, driving clients to medical appointments, assisting in our front office or foot care clinics, fundraising and special events, and meal and craft clubs.

Our volunteers are screened and interviewed which enables us to find a perfect match with one of our clients.

Meals on Wheels

Monday to Friday, between 11:00am and 1:00pm, volunteers deliver hot nutritious meals. Upon request, frozen entrees are available & delivered weekly. The volunteer driver schedule is prepared monthly.

Transportation to Medical Appointments

Volunteers drive clients to and from medical appointments throughout the Ottawa area. A nominal fee is charged to clients, which covers the cost of mileage etc. These drives are requested a week in advance, which enables volunteers to work around their own schedules.

Foot Care Assistance/Office Receptionist

With numerous foot care clinics throughout our catchment area, volunteers are needed to assist with scheduling, greeting clients, and receiving fees for services. Our office is dependent on volunteers to answer phones, greet people when they visit our office and other numerous tasks. This position enables many to understand the ins and outs of our office operation.

Fundraising/Special Events

Nepean Support Services is dependent on our own fundraising projects and special events. These vary from bazaars, annual walk-a-thon, potluck lunches, raffle ticket sales and various workshops throughout the year. Volunteers are an intricate part of our events and are always needed in the preparation and implementation of these events.

Diners’ Clubs

Our congregate dining program takes place Bi-weekly at a local retirement residence. This encourages social interaction and a delicious meal, in different surroundings. Volunteers are needed to set-up, serve and clean up at these noon hour meals. Volunteers with special talents are always encouraged to assist with the recreational component at these luncheons.

Craft Club
Members of our craft club meet once a week to learn and create beautiful items for sale at our annual bazaars. The craft group is always looking for people to attend and help out with different projects.

Income tax assistance
We are involved in a government-initiated program that enables low-income seniors and the adult disabled to have their income tax prepared by experienced volunteers. This program involves a January-April commitment. An annual workshop is held to learn any new issues that are needed to complete the tax forms. Anyone with knowledge in this area is welcome.

Board and Committee Members
Our volunteer board is instrumental to the vision of our agency. Our board of directors bring various skills and expertise to the table. Our numerous committees are always looking for new and creative people to add their foresight to the welfare of Nepean Support Services .

How do I become a volunteer?
Volunteering at Nepean Support Services is an easy process. Our volunteer coordinator will meet with you to discuss our opportunities. Two pieces of identification are required for a police check. After this , we will introduce you to the Program Manager for a more detailed discussion.
